Seoul City to Begin Transition to Electric Buses
Thirty electric buses will start running on routes in central Seoul starting in September, the Seoul Metropolitan Government said Tuesday.
These emission-free vehicles will join 2,000 existing buses on the 73 routes in the central part of the capital.
Seoul plans to gradually introduce 3,000 electric buses by 2025, which will be 40.5 percent of all buses in operation.
The current fleet of 7,400 buses uses compressed natural gas, which is more environmentally friendly than diesel but still emits harmful nitrogen oxide that can cause ultrafine particles and acid rain.
